When I was about 19 years old I was going to a school in Southern California where I started to learn how to read and draw. I would draw on the black board and liked to draw Halloween pictures and Christmas stuff. I did most of my drawings on the black board because they didn’t give us a lot of paper. People were mean and so I started going to another school where I was doing more. I had more help with things at the new school. This school gave me more supplies to work with. I drew a lot of trees and flowers. Soon I moved to Auburn, CA and had my own apartment. I attended the DeWitt School for adults and had a job in the community. I was no longer doing art work, not even at home. My sister lived in Grass Valley, CA and I wanted to be close to her and her family so I moved again. I continued to take route 5, the bus that takes you to Auburn, because of my work. I quit when I had to work the late shift and was not doing anything. I was lonely. I heard about Neighborhood Center of the Arts and started attending to give me something to do. In the beginning my art was nothing. I watched my new friends make art and I got excited. My art has changed and I do a lot of drawings on wood. I like to put cursive writing and printing in my art. Art makes me feel great and cool and proud.
