We have a saying at NCA, “We’re the best kept secret in town.” It’s not that we want to be, we’d like people to jump up and down and say, “NCA, we love you guys and the work you do. You’re the best!”
But when we say “We’re from NCA” to strangers, even people who’ve lived in Nevada County all their lives, we’re often met with a blank stare, a puzzled frown, maybe a shrug and a “Huh?” Saying our full name, carefully enunciating every syllable of Neighborhood Center of the Arts isn’t any better. The reaction that most often elicits is, “Oh, I was there. I saw Paula Poundstone once. Or Dancing with the Stars. Or oh, you’re in the big gray building on East Main…”
Noooo!!! (Stomping feet) We are the Neighborhood Center OF the Arts! Where artists who have access to a wide variety of mediums (thanks to the community) create fabulous works of art in the NCA studios, display and sell their art at NCA galleries and where families and friends visit, love and support them.
We’ve got a favor to ask–no, make that a mission. We. Need. Your. Help. Help us get the word out. Talk about us beyond your inner circle. Tell the guy who cleans your gutters or the person in the pew next to you how much you appreciate NCA. Like/share/comment our Facebook or Instagram posts. Write a letter to the editor. We have some cards explaining who we are, pick some up at the office and hand them out to people you meet.
Help us get the word out. Please. And thank you.
