I first learned of Neighborhood Center of the Arts (NCA) when I moved out of my family’s home. I wanted to be more independent so I worked hard with moving out. When I found a place to live I was so excited. Next on my list was to find something to do each day and that is how I ended up working at NCA. I work in clay, paint on canvases, and build abstract wood sculptures that I paint bright colors. I really enjoy painting and working with pastels. Some things I draw and paint are different shapes, trees, and animals. Some of the things that inspire me are pictures of the things I like. I like to look at other drawings or paintings to get ideas. I enjoy doing art and find it relaxing. As an artist at NCA we are able to sell our art at art shows and other special events. I remember my first NCA art show where I sold my first piece of art. The show was called the Home and Garden show. I had created a wooden flower with ceramic bugs on it. I was so excited because I was able to be at the show and see my artwork sell. There were even other people at the art show that liked my work and I was able to commission two other wooden flowers. What a happy day because I earned my first paycheck as an artist. My goal is to continue to create art and sell it.
